Mumbai Auto-Taxi Union Seeks Three-Month Extension for Marathi Training Deadline

The Mumbai Autorickshaw-Taximens Union has urged Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik to extend the deadline for mandatory practical Marathi language training for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers by three months.

In a statement issued by union president Shashank Rao, the organisation highlighted that the existing deadline and current training infrastructure are insufficient to train the state's large commercial driver workforce.

According to the union, the current capacity of operational facilities cannot adequately accommodate the vast number of auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers operating across the region who require the language instruction.

In addition to seeking a three-month deadline extension, the union has called upon the transport department to increase the number of operational Marathi training centres to facilitate the process for drivers.
