Mumbai Court Acquits 67-Year-Old Man in 42-Year-Old Attempted Murder Case

A Mumbai Sessions Court acquitted 67-year-old Salim Dorajiwala on July 24 in a 42-year-old attempted murder case, ruling that the prosecution failed to establish his identity or his role in the crime beyond reasonable doubt.

The court reiterated that a criminal conviction requires proof beyond reasonable doubt. In this case, the prosecution was unable to present sufficient evidence to prove Dorajiwala's involvement.

The case highlighted the damaging impact of judicial delays over four decades. Over the 42 years since the incident, key witnesses died, memories faded, and evidence weakened.

By the time the case concluded, only one surviving eyewitness remained. That lone eyewitness was unable to identify the accused in court, leading to Dorajiwala's acquittal.
