Mumbai Ganesh Mandals Seek Clear FDA Rules for Serving Mahaprasad

The Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), the apex body representing public Ganesh mandals across Mumbai, has sought clarity from the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding regulations for serving mahaprasad during the upcoming Ganeshotsav 2026.

While backing food safety measures, the samiti has asked authorities to clearly explain the applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs). The representation focuses particularly on the challenges faced by smaller mandals across the city that may lack the financial resources to hire professional food contractors.

The demand follows the Maharashtra FDA's recent introduction of a year-round SOP designed to strengthen food safety monitoring throughout the state.

The samiti noted that while it fully supports measures ensuring hygiene and safety, straightforward and practical guidelines are necessary so that smaller community mandals can comply without facing operational hurdles.
