Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde Asks BMC to Stop Linking Her Name to Unrelated Civic Proposals

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to ensure that civic proposals, projects, and municipal works that are not directly connected to her are no longer referred to in her name.
In a formal letter addressed to BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the mayor addressed the issue of her name being linked to routine municipal administrative matters. Tawde noted that proposals concerning various civic works, development schemes, and public projects are regularly placed before various civic forums, including BMC committees, the Standing Committee, and the General Body.
The mayor stated that it was inappropriate for her name to be associated with or cited in these administrative proposals when she has neither had any connection with them nor issued any instructions regarding their preparation or tabling.
Tawde noted in her communication to the civic chief that issuing clear directions to civic officials would prevent her name from being unnecessarily associated with unrelated civic proposals and municipal projects across the civic administration.
