Mumbai Police Detain Students Protesting NEET Paper Leak Near Chaityabhoomi in Dadar
The Mumbai Police detained a group of student protesters near Chaityabhoomi in Dadar who were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest was organized in response to the ongoing nationwide controversy surrounding the alleged National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak.
Anticipating the demonstration, the Mumbai Police had stepped up security measures in the Dadar area. When the students attempted to stage their protest, police officers intervened and detained the group. The detained students were then taken to the Shivaji Park Police Station for further action.
Visuals from the scene captured police officers forcibly removing the protesting students. Throughout the encounter, the students continued to voice their demands, calling for the resignation of the Union Education Minister. In one instance, a student insisted on his demand by lying down on the road, after which police officials carried him to a waiting police van.
The incident in Dadar occurred amid wider national tension regarding the alleged NEET paper leak, which has reportedly led to the suicides of several students.
Opposition leaders from Maharashtra have strongly condemned the police actions against student protesters. Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule expressed her concern over the use of force against peaceful demonstrations.
Sule wrote on her social media account that every citizen in a democracy has a constitutional right to voice concerns peacefully. She stated that the reported use of force to suppress these voices is 'deeply unfortunate and unacceptable,' adding that the demands of students and parents deserve to be heard through meaningful dialogue rather than force.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also condemned the action, calling it a 'cowardly act' by the current regime. Thackeray criticized the use of brutal force against students and those standing for them who are asking for justice against examination paper leaks.
