Mumbai Port Authority Inducts Three Fire Tenders at Victoria Docks

The Mumbai Port Authority commissioned three newly deployed fire tenders, along with dedicated manpower and a specialized dewatering pump, at the Fire Memorial in Victoria Docks on August 19.
The new fleet additions are assigned to the Port Fire Service to handle emergency and fire-related situations across the port's extensive operational zone. The port facility manages complex cargo operations and critical marine infrastructure, including petroleum products, chemicals, cargo vessels, warehouses, and oil jetties, where rapid fire response is essential to maintain safety standards.
The newly inducted fire tenders are equipped with high-pressure monitors designed for long-range water throw. This capability allows firefighting personnel to engage fire incidents from a safer operational distance, mitigating risks associated with intense heat and thick smoke during major emergencies.
In terms of technical specifications, the vehicles are fitted with multi-pressure fire pumps. The equipment operates in a normal pressure range of 2,850 to 3,000 litres per minute (LPM) at 7 to 10 bar, alongside a high-pressure mode providing 250 to 400 LPM at 30 to 35 bar. The tenders also feature large-capacity water and foam storage tanks, which permit continuous firefighting operations for extended durations before requiring replenishment. This extended operational capacity is intended to support emergency interventions across berths, docked vessels, storage facilities, and other critical port zones.
In addition to the fire tenders, the Port Fire Service deployed a trailer-mounted, diesel-driven, auto-priming dewatering pump. The pump possesses a 52-horsepower capacity and a discharge rate of 550 cubic metres per hour, paired with an 8-inch suction and discharge system. It features a minimum head of 40 metres and can lift water from depths of up to 9 metres.
The newly commissioned equipment and personnel are aimed at reinforcing emergency readiness and response measures across the entire Mumbai Port premises.
