NCP Leader Sharad Pawar Backs Sonam Wangchuk Protest and Criticizes Centre

MUMBAI — Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday publicly supported activist Sonam Wangchuk and an ongoing students' agitation during a press conference in Mumbai. Pawar strongly criticized the Union government for its indifference toward the protest, which has continued for nearly three weeks.
Addressing the media, Pawar accused the Centre of failing to engage with the demonstrators. He expressed concern that the Union government is acting as a spectator rather than addressing the demands of the protesters.
Pawar highlighted that the future of thousands of students is currently at stake due to the ongoing agitation. He urged the Union government to arrive at an appropriate solution instead of remaining a "mute spectator" while the protest continues.
"The protesters have been demanding that the Centre find a suitable resolution, but the government is merely watching from the sidelines. As a political party, we will continue to support Sonam Wangchuk's demands," Pawar said during the press conference.
The veteran leader also expressed deep concern over the health risks associated with Wangchuk's prolonged hunger strike. Pawar stated that efforts should be made to ensure that the activist's fast ends at the earliest possible time.
However, Pawar made it clear that the larger movement should continue until the issues raised by the protesters are fully addressed by the Centre.
According to Pawar, political leaders from the Congress, the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), and several organisations associated with social justice movements have all extended their support to the agitation. This collective backing aims to amplify political support for the protest and increase pressure on the Union government to find a resolution.
