One Killed and One Injured as Balcony Collapses in Juhugaon Vashi

A 35-year-old pedestrian was killed and another was injured after a second-floor balcony collapsed during heavy rain in Juhugaon, Vashi. The incident occurred at Geeta Apartment, a three-story residential building located in Sector 11 of Juhugaon, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. The collapse happened when the balcony portion, which was fitted with an iron grille, detached from a second-floor flat and fell onto the pavement below, striking the two people who were walking in the area at the time.

The emergency was reported to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) disaster management cell, which received a call at approximately 6:40 pm. Upon receiving the notification, the disaster management cell quickly alerted the Vashi fire brigade. A rescue team from the fire brigade was immediately dispatched and rushed to the spot in Juhugaon to begin emergency rescue operations.

The man who lost his life in the tragic incident has been identified by authorities as 35-year-old Rajesh Shetty, who was walking along the pavement when the debris fell. The second pedestrian, a 35-year-old woman identified as Manasi Arekar, sustained minor injuries when the heavy balcony structure fell. Following the arrival of emergency services at the scene, Arekar was transported to the First Referral Unit (FRU) at the NMMC Hospital in Vashi, where she was admitted for medical care.

To ensure public safety and prevent further casualties, the Vashi fire brigade rescue team took immediate action to cordon off the area surrounding Geeta Apartment. Authorities have strictly prohibited pedestrians from walking near the three-story building, as there are ongoing concerns regarding the safety of the path beneath the damaged structure.

Currently, the Vashi fire brigade team is maintaining a standby mode near the Geeta Apartment building. The rescue team remains on-site in Juhugaon, prepared to respond immediately and conduct further rescue operations in case of any more structural collapses at the residential property.
