Pedestrian Hospitalized in ICU After Tree Branch Falls on Him in Andheri East

A 50-year-old pedestrian was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Wednesday night after a tree branch collapsed on him while he was walking along Nagardas Road, near D J House and the Andheri subway in Andheri East.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:12 PM on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Aadesh Gaikar, was walking on the road when the branch suddenly fell. Emergency responders immediately transported Gaikar to Cooper Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. According to disaster management officials, his condition is currently stable.
Following the accident, a multi-agency response team was deployed to the spot in Andheri East. Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the local police, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Garden department arrived to manage the situation. The deployed staff worked to clear the fallen tree debris from the road, which had caused a blockage.
The incident has occurred during a period of incessant rainfall that has battered Mumbai since last week. The heavy rains have led to hundreds of tree collapses across the city. Over the course of just one week, tree falls have claimed the lives of three people in Mumbai and left several other citizens injured.
This latest accident has escalated public anger against the BMC. Local residents and citizens have raised serious concerns regarding the civic body's negligent tree management and the overall health of the city's trees. A major point of contention is the cementing and concretisation of tree roots, which critics argue weakens the root systems and makes them prone to collapsing during heavy rains.
