Proposal Sent to DGP Office for Independent Police Station in Diva

Proposal Sent to DGP Office for Independent Police Station in Diva

A proposal to establish an independent police station in Diva has been submitted to the Director General of Police (DGP) office, Thane Police confirmed, addressing long-standing security concerns in the rapidly expanding suburb of Thane.

Over the past 10 to 12 years, rapid demographic growth has pushed the population of Diva to nearly 500,000 residents. Despite falling under the administrative jurisdiction of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the township continues to face a major infrastructure deficit, leaving its security apparatus dependent on outmoded frameworks.

Police sources reported that approximately 200 to 250 major offences are registered each month from the Diva region alone. The recorded crimes include theft, assault, murder attempts, sexual harassment, and abduction.

At present, the geographically distinct township remains completely dependent on Mumbra for law enforcement. Complainants and victims travelling from Diva must endure a road journey taking over half an hour, or take a local train and navigate heavy traffic, expensive autorickshaw fares, or a 15-minute walk from Mumbra Railway Station to reach the Mumbra Police Station.

Residents noted that traveling all the way to Mumbra to lodge a complaint causes significant financial and mental strain during emergencies. Demands for a local, fully staffed police station have intensified among locals, who stated that an independent station in Diva is essential for everyday safety, registering complaints conveniently, and establishing a visible deterrent against crime.

Responding to the issue, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Chavan, Joint Police Commissioner of Thane Police, said that a proposal to establish an independent police station in Diva has been formally submitted to the DGP office, and continuous follow-up is being maintained on the matter.
