Rain Causes Tree Falls and Vehicle Damage in Colaba, Byculla and Dadar

Heavy rainfall on Sunday morning triggered tree collapses and the fall of a traffic signal electric pole across several areas, including Colaba, Byculla West, Dadar East, and Mahim, causing traffic disruptions and vehicle damage. The incidents occurred as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintained a Red Alert for the region, which includes Thane, warning of continued heavy to extremely heavy rain and gusty winds.

In Colaba, a large tree was uprooted and fell near a building close to the Cooperage Ground and Campion School. A traffic signal electric pole also collapsed in the area due to strong winds, presenting a direct threat to local commuters and passers-by. These latest incidents come amid a series of rain-related disruptions across the city, including severe waterlogging and flooding.

Further damage was reported in Byculla West, where a tree collapsed on B.J. Marg on Sunday morning. The falling tree damaged six to seven parked two-wheelers and temporarily blocked the flow of traffic. Fire brigade personnel and police officials rushed to the spot to conduct clearance operations and restore vehicular movement. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Similar tree-fall incidents occurred in Dadar East, near the Swaminarayan Temple, and in Mahim. In both locations, uprooted trees fell onto roads and parked vehicles, creating disruptions and causing challenges for commuters. No injuries were reported in either of these areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, warning that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected to persist. The weather department has also forecast gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph at isolated places across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and adjoining districts.

Following these disruptions, authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution as heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and strong winds continue to affect several parts of the region.
