Shambhuraj Desai Calls for Digital Push to Boost Maharashtra Tourism

Maharashtra Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai on Monday chaired a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House, calling upon the state Tourism Department to strengthen digital branding and adopt innovative marketing strategies to enhance Maharashtra's global visibility.

Addressing officials during the review, Desai called for a sharper and more contemporary approach to promoting tourist destinations throughout the state. During the session, the minister assessed the Tourism Department's marketing and branding initiatives that were undertaken during the 2025-26 financial year and conducted a review of the action plan prepared for 2026-27.

The meeting at Sahyadri Guest House was attended by several senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism Sanjay Khandare, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Managing Director Neelesh Gatne, and Tourism Director Mangesh Joshi. Senior officials representing the Tourism Department, MTDC, and other allied agencies were also present to participate in the discussions.

Discussions at the meeting focused on expanding the department's promotional outreach through digital platforms, introducing innovative marketing concepts, and improving the overall branding of Maharashtra's tourism sector. Desai stressed that Maharashtra needs to project itself far more effectively on the international tourism stage through sustained, well-coordinated campaigns, directing officials to make greater use of technology to showcase the state's diverse tourism offerings.

Highlighting the broad scope of the state's attractions, the minister emphasised that Maharashtra's tourism identity extends beyond its historical monuments and scenic destinations. He stated that the state's cuisine, folk traditions, art, culture, and heritage should receive equal prominence in promotional campaigns aimed at both domestic and international travellers.

Concluding the session, Desai called for closer coordination among the Tourism Department, MTDC, and associated agencies. He noted that an integrated approach and sustained collaboration, backed by innovative technology-driven campaigns, will be essential to building a stronger global brand and attracting more visitors.
