Six Injured in Dombivli Clash Over Land Dispute in Sonarpada-Mangaon
A long-running land ownership dispute in the Sonarpada-Mangaon locality of Dombivli escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving six people injured after a developer allegedly attempted to carry out action against residential structures using a JCB.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Manpada police station when local villagers strongly opposed the developer's move. According to residents, the developer arrived at the site accompanied by bouncers and attempted to begin an operation with the earthmover despite unresolved disputes regarding property ownership and related documents.
Tensions flared as villagers gathered at the site to block the machine from moving forward. Video footage of the confrontation showed residents standing directly in the path of the JCB and climbing onto the vehicle during the standoff to halt the operation.
The developer, identified as Rameshwar Gupta, denied the allegations and dismissed the claims made by villagers as baseless. Gupta stated that he had legally purchased the disputed property and maintained that no force was used against the residents.
Gupta also levelled counter-allegations, claiming that an inspection revealed around 60 rooms had been illegally built on the disputed parcel of land and subsequently sold to buyers for approximately Rs 8 lakh each. He further alleged that his team came under attack and was assaulted by the villagers during the visit, denying that there was any attempt to forcibly demolish homes.
The confrontation led to a tense atmosphere across the neighbourhood, prompting intervention by law enforcement authorities. Manpada police officials confirmed that they are reviewing complaints and counter-claims from both parties.
Police stated that the process of registering a case is currently underway. Investigators are examining witness statements, video footage, and land ownership records, as well as looking into the claims surrounding the construction and alleged sale of the rooms before deciding on further action.
