Speeding car kills 51-year-old cyclist on Palm Beach Road in Ghansoli

A 51-year-old cyclist died on Friday morning after a speeding car rammed into his bicycle from behind on Palm Beach Road near Sai Baba Temple Chowk in Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. The incident, which occurred at around 8:00 AM, led to the arrest of the car driver by the Rabale Police.

The victim, identified as Parshuram Nagnath Haranshikare, was a resident of Golden Nagar, Talavali Naka. According to police reports, Haranshikare was riding his bicycle from Talavali towards Koparkhairane via Palm Beach Road when the fatal accident took place.

As Haranshikare reached the Sai Baba Temple Chowk intersection in Ghansoli, a speeding car with the registration number MH-04-MR-1444 allegedly hit his bicycle from behind with great force. The impact of the collision threw the cyclist onto the road, causing him to suffer critical injuries.

Local residents rushed to the spot and immediately took Haranshikare to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Hospital in Vashi. However, owing to the extreme severity of his injuries, he had to be shifted to Fortis Hospital in Mulund for advanced medical treatment. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, doctors declared him dead at 10:50 AM while he was undergoing treatment.

Following the accident, the Rabale Police took the car driver, identified as 55-year-old Kashinath Bodkhe, into custody. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that Bodkhe was allegedly driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner at the time of the crash.

A Rabale Police officer confirmed that the initial investigation indicates the cyclist was hit from behind by the speeding car. The officer stated that a case has been registered, the accused driver has been taken into custody, and a further probe into the incident is currently underway.

The Rabale Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bodkhe. The charges have been filed under Sections 106(1), 125(d), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving.
