Thane and Mumbai hit by heavy rains as Powai records 118.4 mm in seven hours

Heavy monsoon showers lashed Thane and neighboring Mumbai on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, causing waterlogged roads and forcing local commuters to wade through water.

The intense downpour, which occurred over a seven-hour period between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, saw several areas record more than 110 mm of rain.

In Thane, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) recorded a total of 71.59 mm of rainfall during this seven-hour timeframe. Meanwhile, neighboring areas in Mumbai experienced even heavier downpours, with Powai, Vikhroli, and Andheri all recording over 110 mm of rain.

According to official data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Powai received the highest rainfall in the region, recording 118.4 mm of rain between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

The heavy rainfall quickly led to waterlogging on key roads. In Andheri, commuters were forced to wade through a waterlogged road as the monsoon showers continued to lash the area.

The rainfall figures were compiled and released by both the BMC and the TMC on Wednesday afternoon. The BMC shared the specific locations within the municipal corporation limits that registered the highest rainfall during the seven-hour period on July 1, 2026.

The heavy showers and subsequent waterlogging created challenging conditions for local commuters trying to navigate the streets of Mumbai and Thane on Wednesday.
