Thane Police Book Youth for Throwing Stones at Local Train Near Digha Gaon

Thane police have registered a First Information Report and taken action against a young man after a viral social media video showed him shouting slurs and allegedly throwing stones at a moving local train near Digha Gaon railway station on the Trans-Harbour line.
The incident took place along the railway corridor that connects Thane to Vashi, Nerul, and Panvel. In the video footage circulating online, the youth and his companions were seen standing along the railway tracks while shouting obscene slogans at passengers standing near the open doors of a running local train. The youth was then seen hurling a stone toward the compartment.
The circulation of the video sparked widespread concern and outrage among daily commuters regarding railway safety, leading citizens to demand strict law enforcement action against the individuals involved.
Taking cognizance of the viral video, the Thane Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case and launched an investigation to track down the suspect.
"The identity of the youth involved has been established. He has been summoned to the Thane Railway Police Station for questioning, and a report on the matter will be submitted accordingly," said Dharmendra Aware, Senior Police Inspector at the Thane Government Railway Police.
Following the police investigation, the accused presented himself at the Rabale MIDC police station. During questioning, he confessed that the video had been staged and recorded solely to generate views and engagement for social media reels. However, he claimed to the police that he had thrown the stone toward the ground rather than aiming to hit the train compartment or injure any commuters.
Shortly after the police initiated action, the youth posted a follow-up video on his social media account, tendering an apology with folded hands and stating that he would not repeat such hazardous stunts in the future.
Railway police authorities reiterated that endangering the safety of train commuters for the sake of social media content will face zero tolerance, and strict legal measures will continue to be enforced against those performing dangerous acts near railway tracks.
