Two 17-Year-Old Boys Detained in Nalasopara for Alleged Gang Rape of Minor Girl

Two 17-year-old boys have been detained by police in Nalasopara in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old minor girl after luring her to a room in a chawl last month.

According to a police statement, the two accused boys had earlier befriended the minor girl on the social media platform Instagram. The incident occurred on July 11, when one of the teenagers messaged the victim, claiming that he had important work to discuss with her, and asked her to come and meet him.

The girl subsequently went to meet the boy, who allegedly took her to a room located inside a chawl where the second teenager was already waiting. Once they were inside the room, both teens allegedly assaulted and raped the 14-year-old girl. Reports further stated that the boys recorded a video of the assault.

Following the assault, the teenagers used the recorded footage to issue threats against the girl, warning her to remain quiet and keep the incident a secret. The accused threatened that they would circulate the video footage and kill her brother if she disclosed the assault to anyone. Out of fear, the victim remained silent about the ordeal.

However, the boys later circulated the video clip, sending the footage directly to the girl's maternal uncle. Upon receiving the video, the uncle immediately rushed to her residence. After confronting her, the girl revealed the entire incident to her family members.

With the support of her family, the minor girl subsequently approached the authorities and filed a police complaint.

A case has been registered against the two 17-year-olds under Sections 70(2), 65(1), 351(2), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police also invoked Section 66(E) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, alongside Sections 4, 6, 8, and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, covering charges of gang rape, criminal intimidation, and the circulation of explicit media.
