Two Arrested in Goregaon West for Fatal Assault Over Hotel Bill Dispute
The Goregaon Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man following a dispute outside an eatery in Prem Nagar, Goregaon West. The arrests were made at around 2.43 am on August 13, 2026, within 24 hours of the investigation being launched.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Munni Upadhyay, 39, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Goregaon West, and Vikas Devaraj Paswan, 23, an office boy residing in Prem Nagar, Goregaon West. Both suspects were produced before a court, which remanded them to police custody until August 23, 2026.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on August 11 outside Salman Hotel in Prem Nagar. The victim, identified as Prem Nagar resident Aziz Mohammad Atik Khan, 30, intervened when two men were asked to settle their full bill with hotel owner Danish Khan. The intervention triggered a heated argument between the two men, Aziz, and another individual identified as Rajesh alias Takla.
The accused allegedly threatened Aziz before assaulting him with their hands and wooden strips taken from nearby fruit boxes. Aziz suffered severe injuries and collapsed unconscious at the scene. Local residents rushed him to the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East, where doctors declared him dead before admission.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim's brother, Habib Mohammad Atik Khan, the Goregaon Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 103(1), 115(2), 352, 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Because the attackers were initially unidentified and witnesses could not recognise them, authorities formed six special investigation teams comprising crime-detection officers and personnel from police stations under the jurisdiction of DCP North Region-1. The teams carried out extensive searches across Goregaon and tracked down the suspects using confidential intelligence.
Police verified the suspects' involvement before taking them into custody. Further investigation into the case is currently underway by the Goregaon Police.
