Two Bhiwandi Factories Sealed and Power Cut Off Over Fire Safety Violations

On July 16, the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) sealed two industrial units and disconnected their electricity supply at the Narayan Bhoir Compound on Kalyan Road in Bhiwandi. The joint action was taken because the establishments were operating without mandatory fire safety systems and a Fire Department No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The two affected establishments were identified as M/s Excel Electrochem Technology and M/s Crescent India Pvt. Ltd. Both industrial units were shut down and lost power during the enforcement operation.
The operation was carried out by officials from the BNCMC Fire and Emergency Services Department, the City Police Station, and electricity provider Torrent Power. The action followed directives from Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar to crack down on commercial and industrial establishments flouting fire safety regulations.
According to civic officials, the units had failed to install the required fire protection infrastructure. They had also failed to obtain the mandatory Fire NOC despite receiving prior notices from the administration.
During recent inspections, BNCMC officials found that multiple establishments in the area were operating without the prescribed safety measures and mandatory approvals. Consequently, the authorities issued notices under the provisions of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006 (amended in 2023) and the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Rules, 2025.
Civic officials stated that the sealing of these units sends a strong message to other businesses. They emphasized that industrial and commercial units operating without adequate fire safety arrangements will not be allowed to function due to the potential risks posed to workers and nearby establishments.
Following the crackdown, the municipal corporation has urged all local commercial and industrial establishments to immediately comply with statutory requirements. This includes installing functional fire safety systems, obtaining mandatory Fire Department approvals, securing trade licences, and clearing pending property tax dues.
The BNCMC warned that establishments failing to comply with fire safety regulations will face similar stringent actions, including the disconnection of electricity and sealing of premises, in the coming days.
