Two Men Dupe Bhandup Woman of Gold Worth Rs 45,000 Using Religious Ruse

Two unidentified conmen duped a 50-year-old woman into handing over gold jewellery worth Rs 45,000 near Sushma Beauty Parlour on Tembipada Road in Narayan Nagar, Bhandup, after instructing her to complete a religious ritual.

The incident took place around 1:30 PM on August 27 when the victim, identified as Anjana Sukumar Goldar, was returning home from a local market. While walking along Tembipada Road, she was initially approached by an unknown man dressed in a white shirt.

According to the Bhandup police, the man first asked Goldar about the location of a doctor's camp. When Goldar responded that she had no information regarding any such camp, the man stopped her again and began telling her that she was fortunate and possessed the blessings of goddess Mahalakshmi.

The man and an accomplice claimed they had a solution to resolve her personal problems. The conmen then persuaded Goldar to take off her gold jewellery and hand it over to them as part of a ritual. They instructed her to walk 71 steps ahead in order to receive a direct glimpse of goddess Mahalakshmi.

Goldar followed their instructions and began walking the required steps. However, as soon as she moved ahead, the two men fled the scene with her gold ornaments, which were valued at Rs 45,000.

Upon turning back, Goldar realised that the men had vanished with her valuables. Bhandup police officials noted that the incident points to an active gang operating in the area that relies on this specific modus operandi to target unsuspecting residents.
