Water Pipeline Burst Floods Link Road in Andheri West, Disrupts Supply

A major water pipeline burst near the SAB TV Junction on Link Road in Shastri Nagar, Andheri West, on Thursday afternoon, causing extensive flooding, traffic disruptions, and a temporary water supply cut to local residents. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM near Sanskar Jyot High School, leading to massive water wastage during peak supply hours.

Large volumes of water gushed onto the busy road, inundating the stretch and causing significant inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians. The flooding led to disrupted traffic on Link Road as vehicles were forced to navigate through the waterlogged streets.

According to officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) K-West ward water works department, the pipeline had weakened over time. A civic official stated that the pipeline passes over a nallah and had gradually bent, leading to cracks that eventually caused the burst.

The rupture immediately affected the water supply to several surrounding areas, including Four Bungalows and DN Nagar, between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM. Civic officials noted that alternate arrangements were made to restore the water supply through another source while the repair work was being undertaken.

The issue was first flagged on the social media platform X by the local citizens’ group Andheri LOCA. The group tagged the BMC to seek immediate action, describing the incident as a case of "massive water wastage."

Videos of the burst quickly circulated on social media, showing powerful jets of water shooting several feet into the air. Motorists and pedestrians had to proceed with caution as the water filled the road.

In response to the complaints, the BMC stated that the issue had been registered through its grievance redressal system. Civic officials assured residents that repair works were underway and expected to be completed by the end of the day.
