Woman Survives 10th-Floor Fall in Bhandup After Tree Branch Breaks Descent

A 26-year-old woman survived after allegedly jumping from the 10th floor of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building in Bhandup West on Thursday morning, after her fall was broken by a tree.

The incident occurred around 9:30 am at the ground-plus-21-storey residential building. The Mumbai fire brigade received an emergency call at 9:33 am and dispatched a team with a quick response vehicle to the spot.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the woman suspended roughly 20 feet above the ground. While the foliage arrested her descent, a tree branch measuring approximately 50 to 60 mm in diameter had pierced her right thigh, leaving her stuck mid-air.

A rescue team led by station officer VS Bandgar carried out a delicate operation to safely lower the injured woman. Personnel reached the branch using an Angus ladder and carefully severed the section lodged in her thigh using an electric saw, ensuring no additional injuries were caused during the process.

To stabilise the woman during the rescue, firefighters set up a canvas sling stretcher supported by ropes anchored to the upper floors of the building. She was then secured and brought down safely to ground level before being transferred for medical care.
