106 Nagpur Residents Stranded In Nepal Floods Evacuated Safely To India
A group of 106 residents from Nagpur who were stranded in flood-ravaged regions of Nepal has safely returned to India and is currently travelling back to Maharashtra, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced.
The citizens were caught in difficult conditions following severe flooding in parts of Nepal. They were successfully evacuated through coordinated measures involving the Maharashtra state administration, central authorities, and local representatives in Nepal.
Following their safe arrival on Indian soil, the evacuated citizens interacted with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis via a video call. During the virtual interaction, the group conveyed their relief and expressed gratitude to the Maharashtra government and the Chief Minister’s Office for their swift intervention, close coordination, and sustained assistance in securing their safety.
Addressing the citizens during the call, Fadnavis stated that their timely evacuation and return were made possible through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar. Fadnavis noted that the central government took prompt steps to deliver immediate assistance to the stranded citizens and oversaw logistical arrangements to ensure their safe passage across the border.
According to updates shared by the CMO on X, the group of 106 passengers departed from Kathmandu for Danapur in Bihar. The transit operation was initiated following a telephone call from Fadnavis to Nepal Member of Parliament Sandeep Rana, who subsequently arranged four local mini-buses to transport the stranded passengers from Kathmandu to Janakpur.
From Janakpur, the passengers travelled to the Janakpur-Bihar border. Authorities arranged additional buses to receive the group at the border and transport them directly to Danapur, from where their onward journey back to Maharashtra was organized by train.
The Chief Minister had previously communicated with the stranded Maharashtra residents on August 27, reassuring them that the state government was actively working on all necessary measures to ensure their evacuation and secure return.
