Borivali-Virar Rail Project Achieves 30% Progress with 2029 Target

The Borivali-Virar 5th and 6th Lines Project has achieved 30 per cent physical progress, with the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) setting a target to complete the major railway capacity upgrade by 2029.
Executing works starting from Borivali along the Western Railway suburban corridor, the project has been sanctioned under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-IIIA (MUTP-IIIA) at an estimated cost of Rs 2,184 crore.
The project scope encompasses land acquisition alongside key structural developments, including the construction of railway bridges, new platforms, and foot overbridges across the corridor.
Once completed, the addition of the fifth and sixth tracks is designed to increase capacity and improve train service segregation along the heavily traveled suburban route.
