Colaba Cha Samrat Unveils Ganesha Idol Crafted Entirely From Rudraksha Beads

A distinct Ganesha idol crafted entirely out of Rudraksha beads has been unveiled in Colaba by the Colaba Cha Samrat mandal. The creation was formally welcomed during Mumbai's Aagman Sohla processions on August 30 as local organisations across the city began bringing in their festival idols.

Rather than carrying the conventional smooth finish typically seen on Ganpati idols, the Colaba Cha Samrat idol features a textured and deep surface entirely composed of Rudraksha beads. Rudraksha refers to the sacred dried seeds obtained from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, which are traditionally associated with spiritual devotion.

The predominantly dark-toned idol is contrasted by an ornate golden crown along with intricate jewellery. Detailed craftsmanship highlights the face and trunk of the deity, while the sculpture incorporates multiple arms in line with traditional Ganesha iconography.

The idol is seated upon a sculpted base and styled in a vibrant pink dhoti drape that provides a burst of colour against the beadwork. A long floral garland runs down the front of the sculpture, accompanied by golden ornaments. The traditional mooshak figure is placed at Ganesha's feet to complete the devotional imagery.

The unveiling in Colaba took place as part of the broader Aagman Sohlas on August 30, which saw several prominent mandals throughout Mumbai receive their idols ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday, September 14. Mandals across the neighbourhood and the wider city have continued to display creative and mythology-inspired concepts as festive preparations get underway.
