Eight-Year-Old Boy Killed by SUV in Bandra West, Driver Arrested

An eight-year-old boy died after being hit by an SUV on St John Baptist Road near Jijamata Garden in Bandra West on Sunday afternoon. Police have arrested the 45-year-old driver, identified as Megha Rawal, in connection with the fatal accident.
The victim, Ansh Ravindra Gupta, lived in the Kadeshwar area of Bandra West and was the only child of his parents. The incident occurred between 2:15 pm and 2:30 pm while Ansh was crossing the road to return home after playing in the garden.
According to an eyewitness, the SUV was travelling at high speed and the driver was allegedly speaking on the phone at the time of the collision. Police stated that the claim regarding phone use will be verified as part of the ongoing investigation. The vehicle reportedly stopped after bystanders raised an alarm.
An auto-rickshaw driver transported the injured child to Holy Hospital in Bandra West. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead at approximately 3:45 pm.
Bandra police visited the spot, conducted a panchnama, and took Rawal into custody. Officials said Regional Transport Office (RTO) experts will examine the SUV, registered under number 24 BH 0455 B, to determine the technical aspects and circumstances of the crash.
Police have registered a case under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash driving), and 125 (acts endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alongside Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving.
