Mumbai August Property Registrations Hit 14-Year High of 12,503 Units

Property registrations in Mumbai across the area under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation jurisdiction are projected to record 12,503 transactions in August 2026. This marks an 11 per cent year-on-year increase and represents the highest registration volume for the month of August in more than 14 years.

Along with the surge in registrations, the Maharashtra Government is expected to collect Rs 1,123 crore in stamp duty revenue during the month. This marks a 12 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, reflecting sustained homebuyer demand despite a high comparative base.

The findings were compiled by Knight Frank India based on data sourced from the Maharashtra Department of Registrations and Stamps. The figures were forecasted based on the daily run rate observed during the month.

Shishir Baijal, International Partner, Chairman and Managing Director of Knight Frank India, stated that the city's residential market continues to experience healthy demand. He noted that while registration and stamp duty collections have moderated sequentially, their strong year-on-year growth underscores the continued strength and resilience of underlying housing demand.

Baijal added that the increase in activity alongside higher revenue collection points to sustained interest from homebuyers across the market. He highlighted that well-located developments supported by quality infrastructure are likely to remain attractive as buyers become more discerning, with Mumbai's economic depth, employment base, and long-term investment appeal continuing to support residential demand.
