Dimple Hayathi Defends Janhvi Kapoor Over Peddi Film Controversy

Actress Dimple Hayathi has publicly defended colleague Janhvi Kapoor amid ongoing criticism regarding her portrayal in the film 'Peddi', sparking discussions in the film circles of Bandra. Speaking out on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Hayathi stated that the responsibility for how female characters are depicted lies with the filmmakers and the industry system rather than the actresses themselves.

The controversy arose following the release of the film 'Peddi', which stars Ram Charan alongside Kapoor. A section of the audience criticized the project, accusing the filmmakers of objectifying women through the movie's camera work, dialogues, and romantic sequences involving the lead actors.

Addressing the backlash on her X handle, Hayathi expressed support for Kapoor and questioned the instinctive response of the public to target female actors for the roles they are cast in. She noted that she was glad people are starting to discuss how roles for actresses are written, rather than blaming them for performing the work they are offered.

"I'm so glad that today, on this day, we are all speaking about how actresses' roles are being written and the instinctive response to blame the actress for doing what she was offered," Hayathi wrote on her social media account.

She emphasized that actors must work within the opportunities available to them as they strive to build their careers, secure roles in larger films, and connect with wider audiences. She argued that the blame should be directed at the system and creators who believe such portrayals are what sells.

"Don't blame the actress; blame the system and makers who really think that's what sells," Hayathi added. "We actors, work within the opportunities we get, trying to make it big and hoping to work in bigger films and reach wider audiences."

The statement by Hayathi aims to shift the responsibility and criticism of the 'Peddi' controversy away from Kapoor and onto the project's creators and the broader industry system.
