Fake Doctor Arrested in Bandra East for Operating Clinic with Forged Certificates
A joint team from the Bandra Police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arrested a 56-year-old man for allegedly running a medical clinic using forged certificates in the Navpada area of Bandra East, Mumbai. The accused, identified as Mohammed Aftab Sokim Khan, was operating the facility despite having studied only up to Class 12.
The raid took place on the night of August 10, 2026, following confidential information received by Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 8 regarding an illegal medical practice operating under the name of Dr Aftab Khan Clinic, also known as Raza Clinic, located in Ghas Bazar, Navpada. Acting on the tip-off, BMC Assistant Medical Officer Dr Trinalli Sanjay Shiktode led a surprise inspection alongside police personnel at around 9.30 pm.
Four patients were waiting for medical consultations and treatment at the clinic when the authorities entered the premises. Khan was allegedly examining patients, administering injections for serious medical conditions, and operating a nebuliser without possessing any recognised medical qualifications or legal licence to practice.
When the inspection team asked Khan to produce valid credentials, he presented documents purportedly issued by the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine and the All India Ayurveda Vidyapeeth. However, during questioning and subsequent verification by municipal medical officers, Khan reportedly admitted that the certificates were forged and confirmed that he had only completed his Class 12 education.
Officials noted that Khan lacked any legal authority to prescribe medication, administer injections, or utilize clinical equipment on patients. During the operation, police confiscated a large stock of medicines along with various diagnostic tools and equipment, including syringes, a stethoscope, a blood pressure monitor, a blood sugar testing machine, a nebuliser, and a pulse oximeter.
Following the raid, Dr Shiktode submitted an official complaint, leading to Khan's detention by the police. A case has been formally registered against him on charges of cheating, practising medicine illegally, and endangering the lives of patients. Further investigations into the forged documents and the duration of his practice are currently underway.
