Samta Nagar Police Arrest Man in Kandivali East Milk Adulteration Bust

The Samta Nagar Police have busted an alleged milk adulteration racket in Kandivali East and arrested a 48-year-old man accused of mixing impure water into branded milk pouches.

According to the Mumbai Police, officers from the Detection Squad of Samta Nagar Police Station conducted a raid at a residential premises in Kandivali East following a specific tip-off regarding the operation. Upon entering the location, police reportedly caught the accused in the act of adulterating milk that was intended for distribution and sale to local consumers.

During the search, police seized 74 litres of adulterated milk packaged under Amul and Gokul brand labels. Officers also confiscated equipment and materials allegedly used to carry out the adulteration process, along with a batch of counterfeit empty milk pouches intended for repackaging the diluted milk.

Following the raid, the 48-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Investigators have registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Food Safety and Standards Act. Police stated that the enforcement action was executed to prevent the distribution of unsafe dairy products and safeguard public health.

The Mumbai Police reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illicit operations that compromise food safety and endanger the health of citizens across the city.

The bust comes amid broader scrutiny over food safety compliance across the country. Data recently presented in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav revealed that 2,23,808 food samples were analysed nationwide during 2025-26, out of which 40,023 samples were found to be non-conforming. The government also reported that 31,878 civil cases were decided with penalties and 1,918 criminal convictions were recorded in connection with food safety violations.
