FWICE defends directive against Ranveer Singh following Ram Gopal Varma criticism

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has defended its regulatory actions and a non-cooperation directive involving actor Ranveer Singh, responding directly to public criticism from filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. The union, which represents film industry workers across Mumbai including the Bandra creative hub, cited outstanding unpaid dues as the primary reason for its recent directive.
The dispute escalated after Ram Gopal Varma openly criticized the union's handling of the situation. In response, FWICE hit back at the filmmaker's remarks, clarifying that its actions are aimed at protecting workers and resolving financial defaults within the Bollywood film industry.
The conflict centers on a non-cooperation directive issued by FWICE against actor Ranveer Singh. The directive is tied to an ongoing dispute involving the film Don 3. The union's decision has drawn mixed reactions from various industry figures who have questioned the severity of the union's measures.
Among those raising concerns is filmmaker and producer Nikhil Dwivedi. Dwivedi publicly questioned the union's decision to issue a non-cooperation directive against Singh in the Don 3 dispute, arguing that such actions interfere with an individual's professional life. "You cannot stop someone's livelihood," Dwivedi stated, challenging the union's authority to halt work over the dispute.
Despite the criticism from both Varma and Dwivedi, FWICE has stood firm on its decision. The union maintained that non-cooperation directives are a necessary recourse when dealing with unpaid dues and contractual disagreements. According to the union, its primary mandate is to safeguard the financial interests of its members, who often face significant challenges when payments are delayed or withheld.
This confrontation highlights the ongoing tensions and disputes over unpaid dues, worker rights, and union directives between film industry labor bodies and prominent Bollywood figures. No official resolution to the Don 3 dispute has been announced.
