Ghansoli 20-Year-Old Loses Speech and Mobility to Rare Condition SSPE

A 20-year-old resident of Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, Shraddha Bhore, has been left unable to walk or speak after being diagnosed with Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE).

The condition has severely impacted her daily life for the past three years, taking away her speech, mobility, and her aspirations. Shraddha, who was once a dancer dreaming of pursuing a career in fashion, now requires continuous physical support for basic movements.

Her family shared the emotional toll the illness has taken during Raksha Bandhan. For the past three years, Shraddha has needed assistance to tie a rakhi to her brothers, 21-year-old Dhiraj and 16-year-old Om. Her hands must be guided and her body supported throughout the process.

Her mother, 38-year-old Sheetal, recalled how Shraddha previously celebrated the festival before the onset of the condition.

“Earlier, Shraddha would tie the rakhi herself and immediately demand a gift. She would wait for her brothers and tease them. For the last three years, that has been missing from our lives,” Sheetal said.

Shraddha lives with her parents, Sheetal and Yuvraj, along with her brothers, at their home in Ghansoli.
