Illegal Stalls Return to Bandra Hill Road Days After BMC Demolition Drive

Illegal stalls along the Hill Road market in Bandra have resurfaced just four days after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive in the area. Several unauthorized encroachments that had been removed were seen operating again on Sunday, sparking fresh concerns among local residents regarding pedestrian safety and vehicular traffic.

The civic body's H West ward had taken action against the encroachments on August 20, following complaints regarding blocked footpaths. The demolition drive was initiated after the chairman of the Advanced Locality Management (ALM) 74 committee submitted a formal letter to the municipal commissioner requesting strict intervention.

According to the ALM 74 committee, hawkers and vendors along Hill Road had progressively expanded their presence, even setting up stalls within the premises of some residential societies. The persistent occupation of pedestrian spaces has left residents grappling with obstructed footpaths and severe congestion along the busy commercial stretch.

Despite the recent demolition, the rapid return of the stalls has raised questions about long-term enforcement along the market corridor. The H West ward office has not yet issued a response or outlined its subsequent course of action regarding the recurring encroachments.
