IMD Issues Yellow Alerts For Maharashtra As Heavy Rain Threatens Mumbai Flights

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts and forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Maharashtra for July 2 and July 3, prompting airlines to warn of flight disruptions in Mumbai. The monsoon's intensification has already brought heavy downpours to several regions, including the Manda area and Doksala Tanda in Jalna district, as well as Beed, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, and Latur.

According to the Pune observatory, rainfall has already been recorded across Konkan, Goa, Vidarbha, and Marathwada. The IMD issued a yellow alert for Beed, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, and Latur districts spanning the next four days. Additionally, the weather department warned of heavy rain and lightning in parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada on July 2 and July 3.

In Mumbai, residents are preparing for intensified rainfall. The IMD forecast heavy showers and thunderstorms for the city and its suburbs, predicting a generally cloudy sky with a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. A yellow alert was previously issued for the city, which may be updated as the weather system progresses.

The anticipated heavy rainfall in Mumbai prompted Akasa Air and SpiceJet to issue travel advisories. Akasa Air warned passengers of potential network-wide delays and flight disruptions due to the adverse weather in Mumbai. The airlines urged passengers to check their flight status before departing for the airport to avoid inconvenience.

Meanwhile, the active monsoon has already caused localized disruptions in Jalna district. The Manda area experienced cloudburst-like rainfall, and Ambad city and its surrounding regions witnessed severe thunderstorms. Water entered Doksala Tanda, causing brief concern among local residents. However, local farmers expressed satisfaction with the rainfall, which is expected to benefit the germination and growth of kharip crops.

The revival of the monsoon follows a brief pause in its progress along the eastern coast. Multiple weather systems have now contributed to its momentum over the past 24 hours, leading to more widespread rainfall activity across the state.
