Sena UBT Leader Sachin Ahir Files Deputy Chairman Nomination From Mahayuti

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Maharashtra Legislative Council member Sachin Ahir filed his nomination for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council in Mumbai. Ahir filed his nomination as the official candidate of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, delivering a significant political setback to Uddhav Thackeray and the Shiv Sena (UBT).

Ahir submitted his nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. Following the nomination filing, the senior legislative leader is expected to formally join the alliance party later in the day.

The decision comes at a time when the political rivalry between the two Shiv Sena factions continues to intensify in Maharashtra. Both sides have been actively seeking to strengthen their organisational and legislative positions ahead of upcoming political contests.

This development has further deepened the ongoing crisis for the Uddhav Thackeray-led party. The setback comes just days after the Shiv Sena (UBT) suffered another major political blow when six of its Lok Sabha Members of Parliament defected to join the rival Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.
