KDMC Orders Probe After Minor Tests Positive For Pregnancy At Dombivli Civic Hospital
The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has ordered a formal inquiry into Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli following allegations that a minor girl received three positive pregnancy test reports at the civic facility, while an independent test conducted outside returned negative.
KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel instituted the probe on August 11, 2026, after the girl's family raised serious concerns over the accuracy of the hospital's diagnostic procedures and reported that the initial testing was conducted without adequately informing them.
The minor had originally been taken to the civic-run Shastri Nagar Hospital by her family for treatment after being diagnosed with low haemoglobin. During her medical examination, hospital staff performed a pregnancy test that allegedly yielded positive results on three separate occasions. Unconvinced by the reports, the family sought a subsequent test at an external facility, which returned a negative result.
According to her family, the minor experienced considerable emotional distress for nearly 24 hours after being informed of the positive results, repeatedly questioning how such a finding was reported. Seeking clarity, the family demanded an impartial investigation into the hospital's medical procedures and laboratory records.
BJP corporator Dipesh Mhatre brought the incident to light and called for a detailed inquiry into the facility's operations. Mhatre questioned whether proper consent was obtained from the girl's parents prior to administering the test. He requested a thorough review of the hospital's testing processes, laboratory logs, and patient records to determine how the discrepancy occurred, demanding strict action against any doctors or staff found guilty of negligence or procedural lapses.
KDMC Chief Medical Officer Dr Deepa Shukla confirmed that a special committee has been constituted to investigate the matter. Dr Shukla stated that the committee will scrutinise the medical records, laboratory reports, and procedural circumstances surrounding the tests. She added that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible once the probe concludes.
The inquiry aims to establish whether the conflicting results were caused by technical errors, human oversight, testing flaws, or other medical factors.
