Lalit Parimoo Blames Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor for Agent Vinod Failure

Actor Lalit Parimoo has blamed the box office and critical failure of the 2012 spy thriller Agent Vinod on creative interference from its lead actors, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Speaking in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Parimoo stated that the actors' constant interventions prevented director Sriram Raghavan from making the Bollywood film as he had originally intended.

According to Parimoo, the ambitious project underperformed because the director's creative control was compromised. He alleged that Raghavan was instructed to make changes to the film at every step of the production process. Parimoo stated that these constant demands turned the final product into a "hotchpotch" and resulted in a runtime that was longer than necessary.

Parimoo explained that the writing and direction team could not present what they had originally dreamed of, which he identified as the film's main flaw. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a director's control over a project, describing a film as "a director's baby" and asserting that everyone must go along with the director's vision.

While Parimoo acknowledged that constructive inputs from actors can sometimes be valuable, he argued that suggestions driven purely by stardom can ruin a film. He stated that actors should only suggest changes if they add value to the character, rather than out of concern over their screen time or footage being reduced in favor of another actor.

At the time of its release, Agent Vinod had generated significant buzz but ultimately failed to perform at the box office. Parimoo's recent remarks offer a behind-the-scenes look at the creative conflicts that he believes led to the film's disappointing reception more than a decade after its release.
