Maharashtra FDA Issues 14-Clause Compliance Order for Edible Oil Sector

The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has issued a comprehensive 14-clause compliance order for the edible oil sector, mandating tighter checks across the entire supply chain from sourcing to disposal.
The regulatory action follows inspections across the state where officials detected multiple non-compliance issues. According to official data, 77 out of 1,247 edible oil samples collected across Maharashtra were found to be of substandard quality.
The order targets widespread violations in the industry, including product adulteration, unsafe packaging materials, improper storage conditions, and inadequate transportation practices.
Under the new directives, the FDA is expanding oversight to monitor the full journey of cooking oil. Regulatory scrutiny will cover not only the contents of retail bottles, but also the origin of the oil, the containers used for transit, warehouse storage conditions, and how used oil is disposed of after use in commercial kitchens.
The sweeping measure seeks to ensure that edible oil operators maintain strict compliance standards across sourcing, packaging, storage, transportation, and disposal channels throughout Maharashtra.
