Maharashtra FDA Suspends Bombay Presidency Radio Club Licence Over Hygiene Lapses

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licence of The Bombay Presidency Radio Club Limited in Mumbai after an inspection uncovered serious food safety and hygiene violations. The inspection was conducted on August 19, 2026, under the direction of Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe as part of the state's ongoing food safety enforcement drive.

According to officials, the establishment violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, as well as hygiene requirements prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Rules and Regulations, 2011.

During the premises check, inspectors found flies across various areas of the kitchen, a dead cockroach, and exposed cockroach traps near the utensil-washing section. The FDA also flagged flaking plaster on the ceiling directly above food preparation areas, raising concerns over potential physical contamination of food.

Inspectors further observed washing powder and other chemical products stored alongside food supplies. Food items and utensils were reportedly placed directly on the floor, and refrigerators used for storing non-vegetarian food were found in an unhygienic condition.

Following the inspection, the club was directed to immediately stop all food purchase, sale, and distribution operations. Authorities warned that any violation of the suspension order could result in strict legal action under food safety legislation.
