Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences of Colaba McDonald's, Khar Gymkhana and Other Venues

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the operating licences of several prominent food establishments in Mumbai, including a McDonald's outlet in Colaba, The Bombay Presidency Radio Club, Status Restaurant in Nariman Point, and Khar Gymkhana, following serious food safety and hygiene violations.
The regulatory action was executed during a statewide enforcement drive conducted on August 19 and August 20. The inspections were carried out under the FDA's ‘Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign, which was initiated under the direction of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
According to an official statement issued by the authority, inspecting teams uncovered multiple compliance issues across the premises. The major infractions detected during the surprise visits included the presence of live cockroaches, the use of uncalibrated refrigeration equipment, and broader food hygiene deficiencies.
The suspension orders were issued to halt operations at the affected sites until the safety and hygiene lapses are resolved in accordance with established food safety regulations.
