Maharashtra FDA Suspends Licences of Mumbai Restaurants in Hygiene Crackdown

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, has intensified inspections and taken action against food establishments across Mumbai for violating food safety norms. The enforcement drive has resulted in the suspension of food business licences for multiple eateries after inspections revealed serious lapses in sanitation and improper food storage.

During recent inspection drives, authorities penalised restaurants and clubs after finding critical issues including pest infestations and unhygienic food-handling areas. The action is part of the FDA's wider food-safety enforcement campaign focused on ensuring that food served to consumers meets required safety standards.

In response to the crackdown, food establishments across the city have begun deep cleaning and revamping their kitchens. Restaurants are stepping up hygiene measures by sanitising kitchen spaces, improving storage practices, and enhancing pest control to align with stricter standards as surprise inspections continue.
