Man arrested at Raipur Junction for molesting teen in Kandivli Metro elevator

The Kandivli police have arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly molesting a teenage girl inside an elevator at the Dahanukarwadi Metro station in Kandivli, Mumbai. The accused, identified as Doni Sarkar, had fled the city following the incident and was apprehended from the Gitanjali Express when the train halted at Raipur Junction.
According to police officials, the incident took place on May 29 at approximately 11:50 a.m. The 17-year-old victim entered the Metro station elevator, where Sarkar was already present. As soon as the elevator doors shut, Sarkar allegedly molested the teenager inside the lift.
Terrified by the sudden encounter, the girl immediately approached the Metro station staff for assistance. She then reported the incident to the local authorities, prompting the Kandivli police to register a formal criminal case and initiate a search for the suspect.
To aid in identifying the accused, Metro officials assisted the police by providing video footage from 64 security cameras located both inside and outside the station premises.
A dedicated police team, which included officer Hemant Gite, was formed to track down the accused. The investigation was closely supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Ghuge and Senior Inspector Karan Sonkavde.
Through technical surveillance, the investigators discovered that Sarkar had fled Mumbai. Sarkar, who worked as a mason in the city and lived in a local shanty, was heading to his hometown in West Bengal.
The tracking data showed that Sarkar was traveling on board the Gitanjali Express. The Mumbai police team immediately contacted railway security agencies to coordinate his arrest. When the train made a scheduled halt at Raipur Junction, authorities boarded the carriage, deboarded Sarkar, and took him into custody.
Sarkar was subsequently brought back to Mumbai, where he was officially booked on molestation charges.
