Mumbai Metro Dubs Resident Gundavli Station Cat Chief Feline Officer

A ginger tabby cat residing at the Gundavli Metro station in Mumbai has gained widespread attention after the metro operator jokingly designated the animal as its official "Chief Feline Officer".
The exchange began when Mumbai resident Sandesh Samant shared a photograph online showing the cat comfortably lounging on a polished black ledge inside Gundavli station. In his post, Samant jokingly urged the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) to assign the feline an official role, noting that it was currently "working for free" while commuters moved past in the background.
The Mumbai Metro operator responded to the post in a playful manner, officially adopting the cat into its fictional hierarchy. The operator stated that the feline was their Chief Feline Officer, listing its supposed duties as conducting station inspections, observing commuters, and sitting in spots where everyone can admire it. The operator added that the cat's performance so far had been "purrfect".
The interaction quickly circulated across social media platforms, crossing 50,000 views along with hundreds of likes and reposts. The post sparked numerous humorous suggestions from daily commuters and netizens. Some users suggested playfully renaming the station "Meowdavli", while others referred to the animal as a sentry cat or praised its role in station security.
Several commuters noted that the cat has been a regular presence at Gundavli Metro station for about three years, with one recalling that it previously had a companion. Others shared that seeing the friendly cat on their daily commute provided a pleasant pause during their rush-hour travel.
The viral post also led other social media users to share their own sightings of animals in transit spaces across the city, including reports of another cat spotted at Kashigaon Metro station.
