Mumbai Police and RAWW Rescue 100-kg Loggerhead Sea Turtle from Arabian Sea

The Mumbai Police, in coordination with wildlife rescue organisation Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW), have rescued a rare loggerhead sea turtle weighing approximately 100 kg after it was found struggling to swim in the Arabian Sea.

The distressed marine turtle was spotted during a routine maritime patrol conducted by a team from the Yellow Gate Police Station in the territorial waters of the Arabian Sea off Mumbai.

Assistant sub-inspectors Suresh Bhalerao and Prashant Borse, along with Police Constable Nilesh Malusare, were on patrol duty when they noticed the large turtle floating on the water's surface. Upon closer inspection, the personnel observed that the turtle was in visible distress and unable to cruise smoothly through the water.

Recognising that the animal required immediate intervention, the police personnel carefully rescued the 100-kg turtle from the sea and brought it safely ashore aboard their patrol boat.

Following the successful retrieval, the Mumbai Police handed the turtle over to wildlife rescuers from RAWW. The rescue team administered medical care and stabilised the turtle.

After initial treatment and stabilisation, the loggerhead sea turtle was shifted to a sea turtle rehabilitation centre in Dahanu for further care and recovery.
