Navi Mumbai Airport Receives First Factory Aircraft Delivery With Akasa Air Boeing 737

Navi Mumbai International Airport marked a major operational milestone early Thursday morning after receiving its first-ever direct factory delivery of a brand-new commercial aircraft, an Akasa Air Boeing 737 Max-8.
The aircraft, registered under the tail number VT-YBR, touched down at the newly developed airport at 4 am following an extensive three-leg ferry journey from Boeing’s Field facility in Seattle, USA. The delivery marks the first time any airline has taken direct delivery of a newly manufactured plane at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s second airport.
The transcontinental ferry flight crossed three continents and multiple time zones before touching down in Navi Mumbai. The first leg of the delivery began on August 14 from Seattle, crossing transatlantic corridors to land in Reykjavik, Iceland. The second leg departed on August 18 across Europe to Cairo, Egypt. The final leg took off from Cairo at 7:35 pm on August 19, making its final approach and landing at the airport at 4 am on Thursday.
The factory delivery comes amid a series of operational rollouts for the airport. The facility commenced international operations on July 15, followed by the launch of freighter cargo operations on August 16. While earlier domestic and international proving flights had tested the runway and taxiway infrastructure, this flight was the first commercial fleet induction conducted directly at the site.
The arrival of VT-YBR brings Akasa Air’s total operational fleet to 41 aircraft. The carrier, which launched commercial operations in August 2022, placed firm orders for 226 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft between 2021 and 2024. The airline is scheduled to receive four additional aircraft before the end of the year.
