Three Booked After Clash Near Laxmi Cottage in Parel Leaves Several Injured
Three people have been booked following a clash between two groups near Laxmi Cottage in Parel on Wednesday night, after an altercation broke out during a blockade on Dr B.A. Road linked to action against bikers allegedly violating traffic rules.
According to the Mumbai Police, around 50 to 60 bikers and 30 to 40 youths were involved in the confrontation. Several individuals as well as police personnel sustained injuries during the incident. The Bhoiwada Police registered a case against three named accused and other unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act.
The altercation triggered tension across the Parel-Chinchpokli area, with reports indicating a scuffle and stone pelting occurred between two groups during an Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession. Visuals from the spot showed large crowds blocking the thoroughfare, with individuals shouting, running, and arguing as police officers intervened and used force to disperse the gathering.
Preliminary details indicate the dispute escalated near Laxmi Cottage after slogans were raised and a verbal altercation erupted, leading to banners being torn. A local resident noted that an initial scuffle occurred around 7 pm, with tensions escalating significantly around 9 pm. Multiple people were detained following the confrontation, while the injured were transported to KEM Hospital in Parel for medical treatment.
In response to the unrest, Mumbai Police deployed additional personnel across Parel, Chinchpokli, and adjacent neighbourhoods as a precautionary step. Access roads leading into the area were closed from multiple directions, and vehicular traffic on the Byculla-Lalbaug-Parel bridge was temporarily halted, with vehicles rerouted to alternate pathways.
Mumbai Police stated that the situation was subsequently brought under control and remained peaceful, with senior officers staying on the ground to monitor conditions and maintain law and order. Authorities have urged the public not to share or believe unverified rumours while investigators continue work to determine the exact sequence of events.
