TISS Reschedules 86th Convocation to Aug 22, Names Tata Memorial Director as Chief Guest

MUMBAI — The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai has rescheduled its 86th convocation ceremony to August 22, naming Dr C S Pramesh, director of Tata Memorial Hospital, as the new chief guest.
The convocation was originally scheduled to take place on August 2, but the institute abruptly postponed the event just two days before it was set to happen. Graduating students were informed of the deferral through an email sent post-midnight.
At the time of the initial scheduling, CJI Justice Surya Kant was slated to attend the ceremony as the chief guest. While the administration cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the official reason for the sudden postponement, some students claimed that apprehensions regarding a potential protest linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) during the CJI’s visit may have prompted the decision to cancel the event.
The last-minute cancellation caused significant disruption for hundreds of students who had already travelled to Mumbai or were in transit alongside their parents and relatives. Many students expressed frustration over the financial losses they incurred due to non-refundable tickets and hotel reservations or heavy cancellation penalties on travel and accommodation in the city.
Following the postponement, the institute assured affected students that claims submitted for eligible travel and accommodation expenses incurred because of the rescheduling would be reimbursed.
