Vidhan Bhavan Meeting Addresses Haffkine Modernisation and Career Scheme
A high-level meeting was held at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai to address the long-pending demands of Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation employees, including the rollout of the Assured Career Progression Scheme and the modernisation of the corporation.
The meeting was chaired by Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir in the presence of Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal. Representatives from the employees' delegation participated alongside key state officials to discuss pending service matters.
During the session, detailed discussions took place regarding the demand for the immediate implementation of the Assured Career Progression Scheme for Haffkine employees. Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal gave a positive response to the demand, raising hopes among the staff regarding the resolution of the pending matter.
Senior officials present at Vidhan Bhavan included Additional Chief Secretary of the Food and Drug Administration Department Sanjay Khandare, Finance Department Under Secretary K.T. Badgujar, and Haffkine Additional Managing Director Ramesh Chavan.
The meeting also evaluated measures needed to strengthen and modernise the corporation. Officials referred to demands raised during the previous legislative session regarding the allocation of a special fund to support the corporation and improve its operational capacity.
Sachin Ahir directed the administration to immediately submit a proposal to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for manufacturing medicines required by the civic body through Haffkine. He noted that such a step would enhance the corporation’s production capacity while enabling it to become more self-reliant.
The Deputy Chairman stressed the necessity of using Haffkine's existing infrastructure and expertise to meet the growing medicine requirements of public healthcare institutions and ensure a reliable supply of essential medicines.
The meeting provided an opportunity for employee representatives to place their demands directly before authorities. Ahir stated that the government's approach towards employee demands and the modernisation plan was encouraging, expressing confidence that the decisions discussed would help resolve pending issues and strengthen the corporation over the long term.
