Waterlogging Suspends Borivali-Virar Suburban Train Services

Suburban railway operations on the Borivali–Virar stretch were partially suspended on July 6, 2026, following severe waterlogging caused by continuous heavy rainfall. The disruption left thousands of daily commuters and passengers stranded as train services faced cancellations and short-terminations.

The heavy downpour severely affected the railway infrastructure in the Vasai-Virar belt. Waterlogging was reported across multiple key sections of the rail network, specifically impacting Saphale, Kelve Road, Vasai Road, and Nallasopara stations. The accumulated water on the tracks made regular train movement unsafe, leading to the partial suspension of services on the Borivali–Virar stretch.

Due to the flooding between stations, suburban train services at Vasai Road and Virar stations were temporarily suspended entirely. To manage the situation, railway operations were adjusted, resulting in several local trains being short-terminated at Virar. This meant that trains heading towards the flooded zones could not complete their scheduled journeys, forcing passengers to halt.

As railway authorities worked to manage the crisis, train services on the Vasai–Virar UP and DN Local lines were eventually started on 'A' Sign signaling. This specific signaling protocol allowed for the slow movement of local trains, enabling some traffic to resume through the waterlogged areas under highly cautious conditions. This slow movement was necessary to ensure safety on the submerged tracks.

The combination of suspended services, cancellations, and short-terminations created major challenges for commuters who rely on the Borivali–Virar line. Passengers were left stranded at various stations along the route, waiting for updates as the continuous rainfall continued to hamper rail operations. The slow-moving trains on 'A' Sign signaling provided only limited relief to the heavily disrupted transit network, with significant delays persisting throughout the day.
