Devendra Fadnavis Targets Congress Over NCERT Curriculum at BJP Meeting in Pune
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis targeted the previous United Progressive Alliance government over the NCERT historical curriculum on Monday during the BJP Maharashtra State Executive Meeting held in Pune, alleging selective coverage of historical figures in school textbooks during its tenure.
Addressing party members in Pune, Chief Minister Fadnavis claimed that NCERT textbooks under the UPA rule dedicated 13 pages to the Mughals while allegedly reducing the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to a single passage. He contrasted this with the current administration's approach to national icons, stating that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the updated curriculum has allocated 17 pages to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Fadnavis also criticised the opposition over multiple issues during his address, accusing the Congress party of targeting the Ram Mandir donation controversy and attempting to frame it as a case of looting. He stated that the opposition's next target would be the upcoming Kumbh Mela, noting that Kumbh tenders were awarded at 20 percent lower prices.
In addition to the State Executive Committee meeting, the Chief Minister attended the BJP Maharashtra State Office-Bearers' Meeting in Pune, which was chaired by BJP State President MLA Ravindra Chavan.
In a post on social media platform X, Fadnavis further accused the opposition Congress of opposing the construction of the Ram Mandir and attempting to spread misleading narratives regarding the upcoming Trimbakeshwar MahaSimhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
Widening his criticism, Fadnavis addressed the Women's Reservation Bill, alleging that the Congress stalled and killed the legislation during its governance. He highlighted initiatives taken by the current administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support women and youth, citing programs such as 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' and 'Lakhpati Didi'.
Outlining the state government's developmental goals, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the administration's target to achieve a $1-trillion economy for Maharashtra by 2030, contributing to the broader goal of a 'Viksit Maharashtra' and a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
